Gilgit-Baltistan, September 8, 2026: Million Smiles Foundation (MSF) proudly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Karakoram International University (KIU), Gilgit, marking an important step towards strengthening education, youth engagement, volunteerism and community development initiatives across Gilgit-Baltistan.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Abdul Razaq, Vice Chancellor of Karakoram International University, and Mr. Khalid Zafar, Focal Person Gilgit-Baltistan, Million Smiles Foundation.
This collaboration represents a shared commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for young people and connecting higher education with practical community service. Through this partnership, students will have greater opportunities to participate in educational outreach, volunteerism, leadership development and sustainable social impact initiatives, particularly in remote and underserved mountain communities.
Connecting Youth with Community Development
Gilgit-Baltistan is home to many remote communities where access to education and development opportunities remains limited. Million Smiles Foundation has been working to create sustainable change by focusing on education, empowerment and community development.
Through this partnership with KIU, MSF aims to engage university students as active contributors to positive social change. The collaboration will provide opportunities for students to connect their academic learning with real-world community development initiatives and contribute their knowledge, skills and energy towards meaningful causes.
Students will be encouraged to participate in initiatives such as awareness campaigns, mentoring programs, community engagement activities, educational outreach and other programs designed to support underserved children and families across the region.
Building Leaders for a Better Tomorrow
One of the key objectives of this partnership is to encourage young people to recognize their role in building stronger and more sustainable communities. By participating in practical development initiatives, students will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, gain valuable experience and become active contributors to society.
Prof. Dr. Abdul Razaq appreciated the shared vision of empowering youth and strengthening educational opportunities across Gilgit-Baltistan. The partnership reflects the importance of bringing educational institutions and community organizations together to create a greater and more sustainable impact.
Mr. Khalid Zafar highlighted Million Smiles Foundation’s commitment to building strong partnerships with educational institutions and creating pathways for young people to learn, lead and serve.
Strengthening Education and Sustainable Impact
The partnership between Million Smiles Foundation and Karakoram International University will also help strengthen MSF’s presence and impact across Gilgit-Baltistan. By creating a bridge between higher education and grassroots community development, the collaboration aims to bring together knowledge, passion and practical action.
This MoU is more than just an agreement between two institutions. It represents a shared vision of empowering young people, strengthening communities and expanding access to educational opportunities for those who need them most.
Million Smiles Foundation believes that sustainable change begins when communities and young people are given the opportunity to participate, contribute and lead. Together with Karakoram International University, MSF looks forward to creating new opportunities for students and communities across Gilgit-Baltistan.
Together, KIU and MSF are committed to creating stronger communities, empowered youth and greater access to education because every opportunity created today can lead to a brighter tomorrow with a Million Smiles.
